Dear Readers,
Welcome to 2021’s last edition of the quarterly NAFA Network – the Nordic Anthropological Film Association's newsletter. It’s been an uneven year of finding new ways of existing and interrelating in a new kind of world, and we hope to be able to bring all these experiences and learnings with us into the next year…
As this year quietly comes to an end, we’d like to remind you of the vast treasure trove of ethnographic films available in the NAFA Film Collection. The Collection consists of films about how people in all corners of the world live their everyday lives, films which have been specially selected for anyone who teaches or studies anthropology, cultural studies, cross-cultural communications etc. For a nominal fee, you can sign up to the NAFA Film Collection and watch all these films in full length until next December. We will be sharing more updates from the NAFA Film Collection in the coming months, so stay tuned.
In more compassionate news, Peter I. Crawford (General Secretary of NAFA) has penned a tribute to Colin Young, a key figure in the development of ethnographic film. This homage celebrates both his life and his immeasurable contributions to NAFA in particular throughout his life.
Last but certainly not least, we would like to draw your attention to the latest issue of entanglements: experiments in multimodal ethnography, available entirely online, open-source, and to the newly-established Antipodean collective of anthropologists, artists, activists, makers, and thinkers Curatorium: critical, creative & collective attunements.
Finally, we also want to repeat our mantra from last time: we are nothing without you and your valuable input. We hope that you will join and actively shape this new platform together with us in the future:
- Can't find your teaching programme or collective on the VA Map? Submit your suggestion here.
- Did you notice that specific film festivals did not make it into the Calendar yet? Use this link to provide us with the correct info.
- Are you thinking about writing a review piece for our Blog? We are happy to receive contributions here.
Please observe that the deadline for blog contributions (between 800-2000 words) for the next volume is 18 March 2022.
Happy reading, and keep safe!
