It has a special focus on anthropological and ethnographic films. First held in 1985\, and one of the longest-established in its field\, the RAI FILM FESTIVAL serves as a leading forum for exploring the multiple relationships between documentary film-making\, anthropology\, visual culture\, and the advocacy of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue through film. \nPlease note that the RAI Film Festival 2023 will be both an online as well as a face-to-face event\, circumstances permitting.

SUMMARY:German International Ethnographic Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The festival presents the most recent productions of ethnographic films and acts as a platform for a dialogue between anthropology and documentary filmmaking. \nThe festival is a unique forum for filmmakers and film enthusiasts from all over the world and considers itself as an innovative interface between science and culture. The aim is to make films about current socio-cultural topics accessible to the interested public and a broad specialist audience\, thus stimulating a socially relevant dialogue. \nThe festival is also a meeting point of young students of anthropology\, sociology and media studies\, who are interested in the use of film as research method\, mode of publishing and communicating research results. The student film competition is one of the central events of the festival. \nThe main themes of this year’s festival are: \n\nLiving on the margins of society\nCoping with personal destiny\nBeyond the matter\nGender issues\nStruggling with the environmental crisis\nDealing with political obstacles\nDecolonisation\nDealing with memories in film\nThe use of re-enactment in film and working with virtual reality.\n\n63 presentations were selected\, 20 in the student film section\, 28 in the main festival\, and 15 in the online section.\nThe filmmakers are from 30 different nationalities and represent people in 44 countries.\nMost films will be screened at the Paulinerkirche in Göttingen\, except 15 quite impressive long films which will be only available online like many of the screened films.
